COMPENSATION: $55,000 to $75,000 salary plus bonuses

General sales experience required


POSITION SUMMARY: The Townley Kenton Relationship Manager program provides a path for experienced sales professionals looking to begin a commercial risk management and insurance industry career.

Relationship Managers participate in an extensive training and development program that will give them the knowledge and experience to create relationships with business owners and executives, uncover problems, provide solutions, and ultimately help protect businesses, employees, and assets.


The Relationship Manager program is an intense and concentrated learning process that couples academic education with real-world experience.

Throughout this process, the Relationship Manager is supported by colleagues, coaches, mentors, and managers.

The Relationship Manager program provides the framework to take your career to the next level as a serious professional.

Upon completing the Relationship Manager program requirements, participants are promoted to the position of Commercial Risk Advisor, upon which they will work more autonomously with clients and eventually mentor other Relationship Managers.


To be successful, the Relationship Manager program participants put in significant time for work, study, research, and preparation each day.

Relationship Managers will spend the first year across the following skill disciplines.

– Creating and following an intensive professional goal setting and execution program

– Developing and leveraging a high-quality prospect pipeline

– Building and fostering long-lasting professional relationships based on the creation of value

– Studying risk management and insurance and progressing through industry designations

– Learning and implementing a high quality and predictable sales process

– Collaborating with team members to execute on complicated business insurance programs



– Appetite for business knowledge

– A proven track record of setting and achieving goals

– Work history and academic accomplishments that demonstrate serious work ethic

– Commitment to professionalism in writing and speaking

– Motivated by getting to know people and helping them

– College degree in a business-related field such as marketing, finance, or economics preferred

– Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word) as well as other online services



– Mastering LinkedIn and Google to find and organize a list of 500 or more commercial prospects

– Acquiring industry knowledge by participating in associations and other networking opportunities

– Connecting with 20-30 business leaders each day via phone, email, LinkedIn, and in-person visits

– Completing the CISR insurance designation

– Networking with industry leaders (centers of influence) within target industries

– Setting and holding 2 or more new client meetings each week with agency mentors

– Achieving high win rates by leveraging a disciplined new business process

– Creating a sense of urgency by gathering critical underwriting data from prospects

– Winning 15-25 new clients per year representing $80k to $120k+ in new revenue

– Keeping greater than 90% of clients and revenue year over year

– Consulting clients effectively and maintaining a net promoter score of at least 70
