Lead Flow Master – Kanban Specialization

The Flow Master (Lean-Kanban Specialization) has primary responsibility of facilitating the learning and evolution of Release Train associated service or solution Delivery Teams in developing a Lean-Agile mindset, improving practices, and guiding them to higher levels of organizational “Fit-for-Purpose” maturity and resiliency. 

The Flow Master (Lean-Kanban Specialization) plays a role in facilitating Lean-Kanban cadences, guiding service delivery orientation, and supporting teams in establishing and managing effective practices related to; visualization, WIP limits, flow management, feedback loops, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Upstream Kanban (Backlog Management Practices)
Works with Product, Engineering, Architecture and Operations team members to guide and practice healthy upstream options (backlog) selection, management, and prioritization practices Facilitates & coaches the practices of effective Upstream Kanban through the execution and improvement of options refinement & selection Prepares for and facilitates release planning with teams  Assists in dependency management and cross team coordination Principle steward of continuous improvement and the development of a learning culture on teams Facilitates cadences, collaboration, communication, and conflict management Teaches team members Lean-Agile mindset and methods Influences the organizational improvement of Flow through the reduction of system impediments and development of healthy Lean-Agile policies, agreements, and practices Mentors Agile Release Train Leadership and Delivery team members in Lean-Agile values, principles, practices, and continuous improvement
Release Train Leadership & Delivery Team Support
Helps identify and mitigate impediments to the team’s Flow & Service Level Expectations  Coaches on localized vs global tradeoffs; helps organization achieve service-oriented balance of muda, muri, and mura Acts as a buffer between external distractions to minimize disruptions – champions “Stop Starting – Start Finishing” behaviors  Assists in the coordination of operational issue resolution Facilitates team development, mediates conflict, and encourages healthy team dynamics.

Fosters team responsibility, self-accountability, transparency and self-organization Leverages coaching skills to help the team learn to solve its own problems
Advice and Guidance
Leads team to adoption and evolutions of healthy Lean-Agile development practices, focus on quality and technical excellence, predictable delivery, automation, and continuous delivery Teaches and encourages a balanced option pool that delivers valuable features for customers, reduces technical debt, provides business value, and enables product sustainability Helps the team to develop, capture, and analyze metrics to facilitate team and service improvements Promotes transparency through healthy communications and data integrity

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or related field or equivalent combination of industry related professional experience and education Working experience related industry  8 – 10 years of working experience as a Kanban practitioner, Kanban Flow Master, Kanban Service Delivery Manager with Kanban Customer-Driven or higher level experience, or Scrum Master with Kanban Working experience in one or more of the following Lean-Agile methods or frameworks: Kanban, Scrum with Kanban, Scrum, Extreme Programming (XP), Lean applied to Knowledge Work Working experience with Agile scaling frameworks, preferably SAFe Kanban Management Professional (KMP) or equivalent and higher Professional Scrum with Kanban (PSK)
