Assistant Attorney II

City of Atlanta

This is a Full-time position in Atlanta, GA posted June 18, 2021.

General Description This position will serve as a resource to the Finance Team and manage a variety of transactions (e.g.

contracts, finance, grants, procurement, regulatory and legislative matters).

A key aspect of this role is the ability to apply legal advice effectively to the issues presented by clients.

This position will require the attorney to act as a resource to review, negotiate, revise, and draft a variety City contracts when needed and act in a professional and responsive manner on all matters, including at a minimum, taking the time to listen and understand clients’ needs and the complexities of the situation to ensure that legal advice, counseling, and written communications are aligned with City processes, City of Atlanta Municipal Code, and other applicable laws.

The Finance Team and its attorneys have a critical role in collaborating with other members of the City’s Department of Law as the areas covered may have impact in other operational areas of City.

The attorney will:

Primarily support the Finance Team;

Provide advice and counsel to a variety of groups and departments within the City of Atlanta, including the Department of Finance, the Department of Grants and Community Development, and the Mayor’s Office of Contract Compliance;

Ensure that all City processes are followed;

Evaluate and communicate to internal stakeholders any risks and obligations and provide general legal advice as needed throughout the contracting, finance or grants process;

Establish productive relationships with the City agencies, departments and functional groups; and

Conduct legal research related to applicable municipal, state and federal laws and regulations and interpret laws, rulings and regulations to advise on legal matters.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: Juris Doctorate degree required.

Must be a member of good standing with the State Bar of Georgia or the ability to obtain membership within one (1) year of employment.

Must have at least three to six (3-6) years of post-graduate relevant legal experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in municipal, county, and/or constitutional law.

Prior finance experience.
